The biggest change of 2018 involved a change in ownership. John O'Brien had decided to take the year off and we were fortunate enough to add back one of our original franchise owners when Brian Guilmet came back. We also voted on a change that will take effect in 2019. In a close vote it was decided that we'd add a 12th position to our starting lineups. This new position will be a FLEX player which will allow owners to start an additional Running Back, Wide Receiver, or Tight End each week. The idea behind it would be to make more use out of our expansive rosters.

Wakeley put up another dominating point total. During the 3rd quarter of the 1 PM games, I thought James might have a shot, but then Mike kicked on the afterburners and raised the bar real high. This was James' first Scandalous League playoff performance, but at least he can say that he won his first game. In the Consolation Game, Low's team recorded the 2nd highest point total of all time (Paul - 2010, 196.0 pts), scoring 195.5 pts to demolish Jeff Nassiff. I thought that this might be Jeff's year. He's been searching for that 4th championship for 21 years! Maybe the "flex" player will do the trick.

In general, this season set a lot of scoring records. The 4 highest scoring teams of all-time came from 2018. Coincidentally, all 4 teams made the playoffs. We also saw the biggest collapse of all-time when Paul missed the playoffs after starting 5-0.

The foundation of Wakeley's Championship team was established just prior to trade deadline of the previous season. Mike acquired Joe Mixon from Shea and acquired both Davante Adams and DeShaun Watson from Eric. In addition to those acquisitions, Wakeley had a few other very affordable starters in Adam Thielen, Marlon Mack, Marvin Jones and Chris Carson. Coming in with only $153 spent, Wakeley had the opportunity to spend on some expensive players at the Auction. When you expect Wakeley to "zig" he "zags" and his most expensive auction player was Matt Ryan ($76). Instead, Wakeley acquired 7 players in the $20-$40 range. There may have been a few chuckles in the room that Mike wasn't going after the big name players. Towards the end of the auction, the chuckles turned to groans as Wakeley was out-bidding owners for those $20-$40 players. My personal highlight was when Wakeley won Ronald Jones thinking that he was Royce Freeman and then flipped him in a trade for a random bum named Wayne Gallman (later dealt for John "Smokey Brown"). Wakeley came up smelling like roses when Le'Veon Bell held out and James Conner became a bonafide cheap starter. With Mike's starters set, he proceeded to win his first 9 games to open the season. His team was so deep that players that could be starters on other teams like Tyler Lockett and Baker Mayfield didn't even get a start for him. At the trade deadline he traded those players for Ezekiel Elliott. Wakeley hit a little hiccup in Weeks 10, 11, and 13. Those loses actually briefly took him out of first place due to a red hot Massive Nassiffs team on their own 9 win run. Alas, the ship was righted when Jeff lost his final regular season game to the last place team. This loss gave Wakeley the #1 seed and Home Field Advantage in the Wild Card game against the Massive Nassiffs. Wakeley won that game handily to earn his spot in the Fantasy Bowl. Previously, Wakeley had been 5 for 5 in Fantasy Bowl games. After defeating James Conary in the 2018 Fantasy Bowl, Wakeley is now undefeated in 6 Fantasy Bowls. Mike's 2018 squad is also the highest scoring team in a single season (134.2 ppg, which beat 2012's Frozen Tundra's 122.1 ppg). Next year Mike returns nearly his entire starting lineup.

This is Mike Wakeley's 6th Scandalous League Fantasy Football Championship and 8th Title overall. Mike joins Eric in the exclusive 8 Title club. Welcome Mike!
