The 2025 season began with an in-person auction at Casa de Pellerin. We enjoyed some laughs, some roast beef, and some peanut butter whiskey chants every time someone screwed up and nominated a duplicate player for auction. We didn't change any rules for this season, but we did establish some new divisions and rivalries. James Conary finally escaped being in a division with Eric and Paul. Mike Wakeley and Paul DiFilippo were the noisiest sub-.500 combo in the league, taking shots at each other all season. Through 13 weeks, eight teams were still in contention for a playoff spot.

The Fantasy Bowl was anticlimactic this season. The Bigg Doggs had five of their 12 starters slated to play on Monday Night Football, so we knew that we'd probably need to wait until then to see which team would win. The way it played out was unpredictable, though. The Bigg Doggs could only muster 40 points through the Sunday games, and 23 of those points were from a defense and a kicker. On the other side of the ball, Crenshaw Pete was building a big lead and, through the 4 PM games, had a 50+ point lead, with two players to go that night. Even a 50-point deficit seemed like it could be attainable for the Bigg Doggs. His remaining five players averaged about 54 points throughout the season. They just needed a couple of standout performances and for Brock Purdy and Jauan Jennings to have a mediocre night for Crenshaw Pete. Little did we know that Sunday night would be the shootout in which the 49ers and Bears combined for 80 points. In the process, Brocky Purdy scored 30 more points for Crenshaw Pete and connected with Jauan Jennings for another 12 points, building the Fantasy Bowl lead to a whopping 93 pts! I don't recall a Fantasy Bowl in which a team had the opportunity to build that sizable a lead. The Bigg Doggs got an amazing 40.5 points from Bijan Robinson on Monday night, but couldn't create additional magic and stalled out needing about 40 more points to win. Crenshaw Pete did it! They saved a couple of their best scoring weeks to the playoffs and came away with the championship.

In other league action, Baby Boom came from behind on Sunday night to tie Just Call Me Dushi at 111.0 points apiece. Unfortunately for Baby Boom, they didn't have enough points on their bench to win the tiebreaker and lost their third game of the season to Just Call Me Dushi. In the Toilet Bowl, Light It Up Blue came from behind in a very low-scoring affair to beat the NQP 56.0 - 54.0. The only winner of this game was the rest of the league, enjoying our subsidized food and drinks at next year's Auction.

The Bigg Doggs had an easy time of it, winning their division by six games. Just Call Me Dushi was in the driver's seat in their division and dropped their final two regular-season games to let Baby Boom slip ahead of them and win the division. Heading into Week 14, the Queen division had three teams tied at 8-5. Two weeks later, the Massive Nassiffs and Polk High Panthers (10 wins!) were eliminated for not controlling their own destiny, and Crenshaw Pete was crowned the division winner. The four top-scoring teams all made the playoffs, which doesn't always happen. However, the top-scoring team (Just Call Me Dushi - 119.1 pts) didn't win the league. Only 28% of the time does the top-scoring team win the league.

Crenshaw Pete came into the season with nearly their entire starting lineup intact. Holdovers from the 2024 team were Brock Purdy, CJ Stroud, Jahmyr Gibbs, Chase Brown, Rico Dowdle, Courtland Sutton, Jordan Addison, and the Denver DST. They had a little more than $200 to spend and invested in electric rookies Omarion Hampton, Tetairoa McMillan, and Ty Warren to round out their starting lineup. Jauan Jennings was an additional starter who was also picked up at the auction. Crenshaw Pete only made one trade during the season, but it turned out to be a brilliant one - swapping KaVontae Turpin for Mac Jones when Brock Purdy was injured. Mac played well and kept Crenshaw Pete afloat during the middle of the season. The Week 2 acquisition of TE rookie Harold Fannin was the savviest pickup of the season for Crenshaw Pete. Fannin was started five times this season, with the three most essential starts being the division clincher and the two playoff games. Fannin is TE #6 in points per game and a solid keeper for the next two seasons. Crenshaw Pete was the 3rd-highest-scoring team in the regular season (114.3).

This marked James' first Scandalous League Fantasy Football Title.
